# Download a report run's artifact

> Stream the file a report run produced.

There are no signed download URLs anywhere in this platform, so this is how a linked
artifact is fetched: the request is authenticated and authorised like any other, and the
bytes are streamed through it. An artifact whose retention window has passed returns 404
rather than an empty file, because the run's record outlives its bytes.

Served by a custom handler rather than a generated one, because it returns a file rather
than a JSON:API document.
